5 fun tooth brushing ideas for kids – get a clean and happy smile
Brushing your little one’s teeth can be a bit of a challenge, but don’t worry! We’ve got 5 fun and exciting tooth brushing ideas for children.
I think everyone with kids knows the everyday challenge of making sure those teeth are clean and healthy.
All kids have their phases where they don’t want to brush their teeth, want to do it on their own, or are declaring the task done after maybe 10 seconds of brushing.
So how to get it done without the situation getting out of hand?
Here are 5 fun tooth-brushing ideas for kids you can try out:
1. Make it a game:
Turn tooth brushing into a fun game. There are many ways to do this. The one my children love the most is: when I chased little multicolored bacteria with the toothbrush. It sounds something like this: „Oh I see a purple one over there. Oh no, it tries to get away… puh I got it. Well, there is another one…“ You get the picture.
Another possibility would be to let them brush the teeth of their stuffed toys at the same time you are brushing theirs. Older kids can also sound out a song while brushing that you or the other child have to guess, can brush standing on one leg, or whatever else you can think of. Maybe your kids have fun ideas, too. Ask them, maybe they have the solution for the problem themselves.

2. Use an app:
Nowadays there is an app for everything, even brushing teeth. You will find different ones that are designed for kids and maybe there even is one with the favoured theme of your little one. Not only will this ensure that your child is brushing for the recommended amount of time, but it will also make the experience more engaging and interactive.
3. Let them pick their toothbrush:
Allow your child to pick out their toothbrush, whether it’s a favorite character or a fun color. This will make them more excited about using it and taking responsibility for their own oral hygiene. Let them brush their teeth and then go over it afterward, it gives them the feeling of independence like a big girl/ boy without risk to their dental health. This way you also see when they are ready to go on on their own.
4. Brush along:
Pick a fun and catchy song and have your child brush along to the beat. Not only will this make brushing more fun, but it will also help to make the experience more memorable for your child. So after a while, they get into the habit of brushing their teeth and don’t have to be remembered when they get older.

5. Make it a family event:
Often children are much more engaged when they see you do it as well. Brushing along with your kid has multiple positive aspects. They can watch and copy you. Younger siblings often look up to the older ones and try to copy them or can even get into a competition about who is brushing better.
No matter which tooth brushing idea you choose for your kids, the most important thing is to make sure that it’s age-appropriate and that your child is comfortable with it. With a little creativity and a lot of patience, you can make tooth brushing an exciting and enjoyable experience for your little one. You can also give them a way for checking the results if you let them feel their teeth (with their tongue) before and after brushing, so they can realize how much smoother, more slippery, clean teeth feel.
Good oral hygiene habits start early, so make sure to set your child up for success by teaching them the importance of regular tooth brushing from a young age. And they should it up, even when they start losing teeth and it may be a little uncomfortable.
